Tidal Trent Barbel
A tidal Trent Barbel masterclass with Chris Ponsford, and featuring Lee Swords .
Two Big river experts spend a weekend at Collingham, on the mighty tidal Trent, catching their favourite species for our cameras, in pretty hostile conditions, plainly enjoying each others company, a mad cap pair of anglers winding each other up all weekend, humour always present.
Lee Swords ,from Yorkshire ,is a very talented angler and has a devilish streak of humour ,but also a great talent for catching Barbel ,amongst other species, talents he plainly demonstrates for us ,showing all the skills and techniques ,and tackle and bait needed ,to take on this mighty river.
Chris Ponsford, or the Pons as he is better known, loves a challenge, and this was his first visit to this mighty section of the river, and presents this film in his own unique and humorous style, the pair catching loads of Barbel for us in typical tidal Trent conditions.
Venues, tackle, tickets and tactics are all properly illustrated, filmed by Tom Smith, himself a mean angler and experienced angling film maker.
If you were reluctant to tackle this mighty waterway, brimful of hard fighting fish, then this will tell you all you need to know ,and leave you wanting to fill up the car and follow in our intrepid pairs footsteps and catch yourself a whacker .

Perch Magic
As a very young and inexperienced angler, the inquisitive Perch was the first fish that Chris ever caught, or should we say the aggressive little Perch attached itself to his worm baited hook.
However, that was the start of a lifelong angling journey, still burning bright 45 years later.
In this beautifully filmed dvd by Tom Smith, we visit the rivers Kennet, Great Ouse to see various methods employed, all explained, and filmed in great detail, as plenty of fish are caught, some of them, proper specimens.
“The Pons” relaxed style takes us through nearly all the methods needed to catch quality Perch, including spinning and lures.
Top Southern specialist, Paul Smyth, takes us on a Kennet adventure, catching at will from several parts, including an exclusive Trout beat.
Paddy Leigh, a Great Ouse Specialist, with two five pounders to his credit, and countless fours, shows us his tactics on this river, and adopts a roving approach, often walking miles in a day seeking out the nomadic “Stripeys”.
This dvd was filmed in summer and winter, in various conditions from flood to gin clear and low water, in bright light and dull.
Never has the time been better to catch huge perch, and this film should show all you need to know on how to target and catch this popular fish, which many specialists are starting to target, including match anglers, as they are now prolific on countless venues countrywide.
As anglers look to other species, the magnificent Perch should be high on your angling agenda, the time has never been better, so join us on this journey to show you how, and rekindle childhood memories, except now the fish are substantially bigger.

Wye Valley Barbel
A year or two back when we made “Teme Tigers” this seemed like an obvious follow up, being local to me, and full of great memories every time I had fished it over the last twenty years or so, right back to my match fishing days ,when it was full of Chub and Dace.
Now it is Barbel heaven, seemingly paved with them, as well as plenty of Chub and Dace again.
We filmed from the tidal water at Brockweir, following the river up to near Hay on Wye, during the late summer of 2007, ironically in low clear conditions following the floods of June.
I fished at three venues, all in the heat of the day, and caught plenty of pristine Barbel as well as unexpected hard charging Carp and Chub.
Methods, bait, tickets, venues are all covered and filmed, and I am sure you will find this very useful in planning a trip to the Wye, giving you a real insight to this beautiful river.
It is priced at £10-95 including postage and packaging and available by contacting me on chrispons@talk21.com ,or calling the contact numbers on the other pages.

Teme Tigers
This was the first angling DVD I made with Tom Smith from Original video co, a great mate and very good experienced angler.
We had loads of fun doing it, and caught plenty of fish in very tricky summer conditions.
It is a comprehensive guide to this river, its inhabitants and the methods, baits and tactics needed to catch the very hard fighting Barbel it contains, often called “Teme Tigers”
Let it not be said making Angling films is easy, it’s not, but I think you will learn plenty of the river and its moods from this and come well prepared as a result, and hopefully go away having a great day or week.
Priced at £10-95, and available as above.

Etangs des Royales
The chance to go to France in the Champagne region was not to be missed, in fact we went three times, enjoying some great hospitality and fishing at Jon and Ben Hofgartners Lake, Etangs des Royales.
This was filmed late summer in 2007, and gives the insight track if you are planning a Carping holiday in France.
Carp are caught on camera to 49lbs, and baits, rigs, tackle are explained and filmed in detail, with tips galore from Jon and Ben, two highly experienced and famous anglers.
Anglers on the lake are interviewed and filmed as are all the facilities at the lake, along with the connection to Yately Angling Centre, and Ace Baits.
It does promote the facility, but anglers have told me they really enjoyed it, and it gave them the urge and information needed to plan a trip to the continent.
Priced at £10-95, and available as above. |
