Years ago ,as a young match angler, I used to visit the fabulous River Wye and was awestruck by it’s beauty and terrific fish stocks, it is still like that today, except it is now full of crazy, pristine Barbel ,little did I know I would return older,greyer,wiser,to pass on some of my knowledge to others visiting for the first time, to experience as I did the river Jose Mourhino might call the special one. Make no mistake; this is a very special river, an unspoiled gem, previously hidden by exclusive Salmon beats, untrodden by coarse anglers. Now, due to several local clubs, and the Wye and Usk Foundation, some wonderful water is becoming available for the first time. Fabulous news ! There is no finer place to be on a sunny day, buzzards wheeling overhead, Salmon leaping, Barn Owls at dusk, unspoiled banks, and Barbel and Chub galore, if you can find them, because it can be Peggy and that is something it has always been renowned for.
